Precision Monitoring (formally Precision Teaching)

Precision teaching is a structured teaching method that’s designed to improve the accuracy and fluency of reading, spelling and maths. The main goal of precision teaching is to target and improve specific skills within an intervention.

Precision teaching is often used with children with SEND who might need additional support. It’s a highly focused, evidence based intervention. This two part training is designed for support staff in primary, secondary and specialist who will be running this intervention with students in school with the follow up session designed to support any difficulties with implementation that may arise.

Part 1 – Thursday 28th November 2024

Part 2 – Thursday 16th January 2025

Time for both sessions: 1pm-4pm
Where: Cantium House, Wallington, SM6 0DZ

They are underpinned by attachment aware and trauma informed approaches and can be used in all types of educational setting. This training is for school leaders, SENCOs, pastoral leads, mental health leads or support staff with a pastoral or well-being responsibility

Activated Learning

Activated learning is an approach which seeks to educate students about their executive functioning skills to develop their ability to self-regulate. EFs are often described as the air traffic control centre of the brain. Residing in the prefrontal cortex, EF skills such as attention, flexibility, or time management are responsible for managing all areas of daily life – from work, to school, to home. We rely on these skills every day, and yet we rarely hear about them at school. Activated learning seeks to address this in an evidenced based way.

This training is suitable for curriculum leads, SENCOs, class teachers and HLTAs across primary, secondary and specialist settings

Date: Wednesday 29th January 2025 Time: 1pm-4pm

The Importance of Play

Play improves the cognitive, physical, social, and emotional well-being of children and young people. Through play, children learn about the world and themselves. This session will explore some of the psychological theory underpinning play for children in school, considering the importance of play beyond the pre-school years. It will also consider how neurodiversity intersects with play.

This training is open to all school staff, particularly those with a role related to SEND.

Date: Thursday 13th March 2025 Time: 1pm-4pm
Where: Cantium House, Wallington, SM6 0DZ
Cost: Fully Funded

Lego Therapy

Lego-based therapy (LeGoff et al 2014) is an evidence based approach that aims to develop social communication skills in autistic children, such as sharing, turn-taking, following rules, using names and problem-solving. It provides a naturalistic social skills programme for children who need additional support to develop the social interaction skills needed to develop relationships and to feel safe and secure in school.

This training is open to SENCOs, teachers, TA’s and HLTA’s.

Date: Wednesday 23rd April 2025 Time: 1pm-4pm
Where: Cantium House, Wallington, SM6 0DZ
Cost: Fully Funded

Selective Mutism

Selective Mutism (SM) is a form of anxiety where a child or young person is unable to talk to certain people or in certain situations. Children with Selective Mutism can talk freely when they feel comfortable, such as at home with close family or friends. But in other situations, such as at nursery or school, they feel frightened that someone might ask them to speak.

This session explores the psychology underpinning selective mutism and support for these difficulties and is open to SENCOs, teachers, TA’s and HLTA’s.

Date: Wednesday 18th June 2025 Time: 1pm-4pm
