The Sutton Virtual School Annual Report 2023 describes how Sutton Virtual School works closely with foster carers, social workers, Cognus services and schools to help improve the education of our Children Looked After. The report celebrates the achievements and enrichment experiences of our children over the past year.
We are so proud of everything they’ve achieved.
What is working well?
- School grades are soaring! More of our young people are acing exams and assessments, which is incredible! We saw a great improvement in writing outcomes in particular.
- Fewer suspensions in school! There are less Sutton children looked after being suspended and excluded than in other areas of the country. School can continue to be the place to learn and grow.
- Even better support from the adults! There are even more adults working hard to support our young people, from teachers and social workers to carers and family. They have done even more training in the past year and are focused on improving the school systems.
- Even more fun opportunities! We know learning isn’t just about books and tests and we ensured there were fun events throughout the year such as the Summer Fun Day? Or workshops, covering everything from DJ-ing to graffiti.
What can be improved?
- Attendance needs a boost! We want our young people to have fun and learn awesome things every day in school. That’s why we’re working with teachers, families, and our young people to come up with ideas to help more children attend school every day.
- Number quest! We will ensure our young people make the best progress possible in maths. We’re proud of every equation they solve and every problem they conquer. So keep up the exploring and experimenting, and we will put even more focus on this area in the future.
In the year ahead we continue to strive for even more and to continue to build an even better future for our Children Looked After.
