Grace Mullin, Speech and Language Therapist at Cognus Therapies, attended a networking event at Sutton and District Training College in the summer term 2023. The event provided opportunities to meet with various professionals across the borough of Sutton including representatives from social care, education, and the youth justice service.
Grace was able to liaise with professionals in attendance regarding young people on her caseload and shared recommendations for services in the local area. She received the following feedback from an assistant head teacher after sharing recommendations for employability support in Sutton: “It was really nice meeting you too and thank you for the contacts”. Grace spent some time speaking with the work experience coordinator based at Sutton and District Training College regarding one of the students on her caseload. The work experience coordinator then followed up with an email after the event saying: “Thanks for introducing yourself this morning. It was great to meet you. I look forward to working more closely with you for the benefit of our students”.
The leadership team at Sutton and District Training College provided a provision update for all attendees. This covered courses they are running in the new academic year and support they provide for young people with Education Health and Care Plans. Grace was able to share this information with her therapy colleagues, particularly those who were supporting Year 11s transitioning to college.
Grace reported the following views on the event: “I was very grateful for the invite to this event as it gave me the opportunity to connect with a range of professionals in the local area. It was lovely to see the support in place for young people attending Sutton and District Training College and to then feedback to my colleagues regarding the courses on offer”.
