In the spring term, the Education Safeguarding Team led on a lot of work with Designated Safeguarding Leads to bring professional curiosity to the forefront of thinking. An inspiring video was shared of Jaz Ampaw-Farr in her TEDx Talk, where she re-storied her life as a broken child, highlighting the transformative power we have to make a difference.
‘Change won’t happen until your desire to make a difference is bigger, stronger and more powerful than your fear of trying’ (Jaz Ampaw-Farr)
Our Designated Safeguarding Leads in Sutton are our ‘everyday heroes’ and it is important that this is recognised by all, including the DSLs themselves. The last 2-years have been particularly challenging but the difference that we can all make to the life of a child should never be under-estimated
Jaz is highly recognised for the impact she’s had on the education and health sectors, galvanising and inspiring those around her. She has led national and international projects unlocking potential in leaders and teams.
As a speaker, Jaz has a disarming ability to captivate her audience and share her story with humour and humility and without anger or bitterness. She invites people into a more authentic narrative around choice and agency, leaving individuals and organisations reporting an increase in determination and productivity.
Jaz’s ability to reframe means she sees the world in a unique way, which challenges and ignites those around her, lifting them out of what she calls ‘mindset poverty’ into previously unachievable outcomes.
After attending one of Jaz’s webinars and being truly inspired, Hayley Cameron (Education Safeguarding Manager) has joined up to Jaz’s Human First Academy. Over the next 12-months, Hayley will be working with Jaz to develop her ‘own story’ to share at local and national safeguarding events in the future. Watch this space!
