January to March 2024 sees the launch of the national attendance campaign, what better time than this to showcase Suttons coproduced school attendance strategy Attend to Achieve!!!
This strategy seeks to address the needs of children and families in Sutton by removing barriers they may face achieving good school attendance. Our goal is to ensure that every child is able to access and thrive in education. We are ambitious for children and dedicated in supporting them to achieve their full potential both now and into adulthood. As a partnership we are committed to making this a reality and will ensure that Sutton has a coordinated multi-agency response that places children and families at the centre, ensuring that they are able to access meaningful support at the right time and in the right way.
Since its development we have seen some fantastic progress which includes the launch of a policy for supporting children too unwell to attend school, the development and implementation of a multi-agency problem solving panel, having a named Education Welfare Officer attached to every school in Sutton and the implementation of Studybugs a data collection platform across 91% of Suttons schools and much much more.
On a recent visit to Sutton our allocated DfE advisor reported that “Overall, Sutton has made excellent progress towards delivering against the Working Together to Improve Attendance. The requirements are clearly understood with developments undertaken at both strategic and operational levels and plans in place to deliver the next steps.” This is fantastic feedback and we are #CognusandProud of what has been achieved to date, however there is more to do.
