In January 2025, the Education Safeguarding Team conducted Safeguarding Reviews in two of our Primary Schools, St. Cecilia’s Catholic Primary School and St. Dunstan’s Cheam Church of England Primary School.
As we all know safeguarding does not stand still. It is so useful to go through our safeguarding practices and processes and to get external validation on what we are doing
(Primary DSL, January 2025)

The team conduct reviews in all Sutton Schools as part of a 3-year cycle. This further endorses and validates the information shared with the LSCP in the annual S175 audit. We meet with the Head teacher and DSLs to review policies and procedures and the schools’ evidence to support safeguarding. We also have a pupil led tour of the school, and discussions teaching staff, office staff and the Governor responsible for Safeguarding. This enables us to fully understand and appreciate the ‘challenges’, whilst also celebrating the ‘positives’, and allows us to determine effective ‘next steps’.
Following the review, a report is shared with the school and local authority and is used to support inspections, as well as contributing to the ongoing action plan for the internal development of safeguarding within the school.
We always ask for feedback after our visits as this helps us to further improve and develop the service.
The experience of your visit was so positive and forward thinking, and I really appreciated the time you gave us
(Primary DSL, May 2024).
We used your safeguarding review in our recent Ofsted Inspection. The team were impressed by what is available to us in Sutton – thank you!
