Jessica Wood, Specialist Speech and Language Therapist, recently delivered an interactive, fun and informative workshop for 15 of our dedicated SEND Champions. This event marked the third workshop of the year under Cognus Therapies’ Graduated Response initiative, which aims to support schools within the London Borough of Sutton (LBS).
The workshop brought together staff from nursery to 6th form, creating a collaborative environment where participants shared their strategies for supporting children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). It was heartening to hear about the excellent work our SEND Champions are already doing and to witness the mutual support and ideas exchanged among them.
Throughout the day, we gained valuable insights into understanding the underlying reasons for certain behaviours and learned how to adapt our communication methods to better regulate, relate, and reason with our students. This reflection on our thoughts and feelings about young people with social, emotional, and mental health needs was particularly enlightening.
If you would like to be or nominate a SEND Champion within your school to help empower and make small changes within your Sutton school join us for the next SEND Champion training in 2025.
