Record GCSE results for children looked after

13% of children looked after in Sutton have achieved a good pass (grade 5+) in English and Maths (compared to 6% last year) and 29% achieved a grade 4+ in English and Maths (up from 6% last year) – this is a record Year 11 GCSE results for our children in care.

These results will allow a greater percentage of our young people to engage in higher level qualifications at post 16 and will have a significantly positive effect on future outcomes.

We have also seen an increase in the number of young people gaining a 4+ in English (42% up from 18%) and Maths (33% up from 18%).  The number of young people achieving at least one GCSE increased from 53% to 71% and the number of young people achieving 5 or more GCSE at level 4+ rose to 33% from 12%.

Cognus’ Sutton Virtual School provides educational support for Children Looked After and Previously Looked After to improve their educational outcomes.

We are very proud of the hard work our young people have put in to receive these grades and are very excited that many more young people will be able to access a higher level of post 16 learning to support their future careers.
