Early Intervention and Identification (Paving the Way)

Paving the Way is Cognus’ early intervention service which provides support for children and young people with a range of difficulties that cause barriers to engagement in learning, social interaction, and achieving their full potential.

Paving the Way covers difficulties which may include:

  • Social communication
  • Attention and concentration
  • Anxiety and self-esteem issues
  • Relationship issues
  • Emotional regulation difficulties

Support for children and young people

Paving the Way provides one-to-one and tailored support for children aged 5-11 attending a school in Sutton. Targeted support includes individual sessions working towards agreed results for the child. Other support may include group sessions, screenings as necessary, request for additional services, and signposting useful information and resources.

For children and young people aged 5-18 years who receive a new diagnosis of autism, we provide an individual session to help them understand what autism means for them.

 Support for parents/carers

We offer a range of workshops for parents/carers, including understanding social communication difficulties, autism, and autism with a dual ADHD diagnosis. Individualised support and signposting useful information and resources may also be offered.
