A·LIST

We are delighted to announce a new training programme being developing by the Educational Psychology Service (EPS) at Cognus, leading to certification as a literacy intervention facilitator: the A·LIST programme.

Similarly to the ELSA programme, the A·LIST programme is designed to be delivered to teaching assistants or learning support assistants who will receive six full days of training over the course of the year.

Upon completion of the course, they will have developed the skills to run a number of evidence-based interventions for children and young people with literacy difficulties at an individual and group level. This programme is being developed and run by Educational Psychologists in Sutton who are passionate about supporting individuals with literacy difficulties.

This is a pilot programme and schools in Sutton are in the fortunate position of being able to be part of its inception. Here are some details about the programme:

  • Trainees will receive 6 full days of face-to-face training which will equip them with the skills to assess literacy difficulties and plan appropriate intervention. They will learn how to implement a range of literacy interventions that are appropriate for different literacy difficulties.
  • The course is being offered at a discount rate (£300 per delegate) as this is a pilot programme.
  • School leaders are asked to commit to providing protected time (at least 30 minutes a day but ideally more) for the A·LIST to deliver interventions.
  • Similarly to the ELSA programme, A·LIST completers will be able to use this title and will have specialist knowledge about delivering interventions for young people. They will require ongoing supervision in the same way ELSA practitioners do in order to maintain use of the title (which will be purchased from and provided by the EPS).

If you would like any further information, please get in contact with Joe Lettington (joe.lettington@cognus.org.uk) who is leading the programme.

We hope that many of you will take up this fantastic opportunity to be part of something new and exciting which we hope will make a difference for countless young people across the borough and in the long term across the UK.
