“You are never too old to set a new goal or to dream a new dream”
S. Lewis
2020 was an interesting year for all of us and I imagine that we are looking forward to all we can achieve in 2021! During the lockdown periods I am sure you have challenged yourselves and the young people in your care to try something new, to come out of their comfort zone and see where that took them and what they could achieve.
That is what I hope Sutton Virtual Schools enrichment programme will do for the young people we support, give them a chance to get involved in opportunities that they might never have thought possible. The benefits of participating in enrichment activities are lifelong. You are potentially learning a new skill, building resilience and problem-solving skills with new tasks, improving your social skills through teamwork, and boosting self-esteem and confidence, achieving a sense of accomplishment when successfully completing the task and most importantly you are having fun.
Sutton Virtual School are planning a variety of activities for the young people to take part in from science and tech workshops, going to see live sporting events, arts trips, indoor skiing activities and if we’re lucky a residential in India! There are many enrichment activities that you can start off with in the home from learning the history of a particular dish from around the world and then making it or perhaps you can tune into a showing of a children’s arts performance, perhaps you could even try learning a new language as I did during my time at home (‘Me encanta aprender’ meaning, I love to learn, in Spanish).
The sky’s the limit they say,
Who knows what additional knowledge, skills, hobbies,
You’ll pick up along the way,
Go on, try something new today.
