Supporting students to develop a positive understanding of their autism identity

During her time with Cognus, Rebecca Duffus has been a speaker at many national conferences, such as the TES SEN Show and the Education People Show.

Over the past year, the conference world has changed somewhat and most shifted to online delivery.  Rebecca was pleased to be able to contribute to the Inclusive Communication Essex (ICE) Sharing Day which was held online for the first time in its 14-year history.  The theme for this year was colour and how parents and professionals can use colour to promote effective communication.

Rebecca’s’ session was on the ‘Zones of Regulation’ and ‘The 5 Point Scale’. Rebecca explored how colour can help to understand, organise and express emotions. Her talk was inspirational and well received by all:

“I love this! People are so often afraid to talk about emotions with people with autism.”

“I am thinking about how we can implement Rebecca’s zones into adult centres.”
