On Thursday 26th September, the LSCP held a learning event at The Chaucer Centre to talk about Child Sexual Abuse and the barriers to reporting, which is an issue both locally and nationally.
Hayley Cameron (Education Safeguarding Manager, Cognus) was on the working party to develop this event and worked with both primary and secondary schools to ensure their views were heard.
During the morning, we had presentations from Natasha Edmonds-Chappell (Primary) and Emma Bradshaw (Secondary and Alternative Provisions) who captured what CSA looks like in our schools.
We also had presentations from our colleagues in police, health and social care.
‘Such a powerful morning – I felt quite emotional at times. In Sutton I love how we come together to problem solve. There was a real buzz in the room, and I am looking forward to what developments come from the event’ (Primary Designated Safeguarding Lead, September 2024)
Networking is important, powerful and creates opportunities. We are so much better together, working collaboratively, promoting our services, and creating opportunities to support and drive change to improve the lives of our young people and their families. The LSCP are now creating an action plan following the useful discussions during the morning and this will be shared with all that attended. This will also help to inform work streams over the coming months.
